These jellies don't sting..

This is my first effort at fused glass. All of the projects at NuNu's are 50% off and I'd been wanting to do fused glass since last year. After poking through the scraps she had I knew I wanted to create something with jelly fish. So I made this plate last Saturday after finishing my Firefly dinnerware. I'm planning on getting a plate stand and placing a low watt lamp behind it. The photo really doesn't do justice to the amazing colors and textures of the glass. I went back today with my mom and best friend and made a nite lite and a suncatcher that will make their way up here eventually if they turn out to be half as cool as I think they will.

Gifts

As anyone with artistic hobbies knows there is a downside to be abundantly creative - space. Where the hell do you put everything you make? Giving it away is a great option. These two pieces were gifts. The first is a "sushi swoop" dish that I handpainted a frame from a comic book (X-Factor) on as a birthday gift for my best friend.

The second was really neat - a friend sent out beautiful homemade inviations to her wedding that featured a "vintage" photo of the happy couple in Victorian wedding duds. The second I saw it I knew I wanted to use it to create a special wedding gift so I digitized the image using the same process as the Firefly plates and painted it onto - what else - a cake stand. I'm glad I made such a nice gift because I ended up getting my appendix out instead of going to the wedding...

Plates, plates, plates, and more plates or who doesn't want to eat off of Nathan Fillion?

So I started this dinner set last year before I quit my job then the whole full time student/part time job/no money thing slowed me down but I finally finished the set last weekend. I didn't make the plates, I painted them at NuNu's which is, sadly, going out of business. They are painted by hand and in many cases the designs were crafted by me using photo stills from the series "Firefly". I love them so much that food will probably never touch them.

So this is blogging....

Let me just say that I am very anti-blogging. I don't need to bore total strangers (or even friends) with the deadly dull details of my most intimate musings. So why am I here? Well, I liked my sister's idea of using a blog to share her artistic efforts with her friends. Really cuts down on the emailing huge attachments of photos. Craftiness runs in the family but most of my stuff never sees the light of day once I "birth" it. And I've been on a creative streak lately and was feeling quite proud of a number of my creations. So, naturally I wanted to share them with the world. We'll see how it goes... I don't expect that this will be updated often (if at all). I'm not selling anything, so there's no money in it. And I'm terribly busy. Terribly. If you have any desire to see my first public attempts at showing off my artistic efforts (and are ready to be geeked out) you can visit my other website http://www.projectpolaris.com and check out the custom action figures that I used to slave and obsess over. As for what you can expect to find here - lots of painted ceramics, a little fused glass (more to come - it's my new "thing"), and a few dolls. Who knows what the future holds?
